Dress Code

Concert/Stage Etiquette

Concert/Stage Etiquette

  •  Unless otherwise stated in advance, the dress code is professional concert black.  This means semi-formal attire that is the color black from the neck down, including shoes. This can range from business casual to a suit and tie.
  • Clothes should be clean, without rips, tears or holes and should cover your torso through your knees with opaque (non see-through) material. Clothes should not have writing, images or logos visible.
  • There are no restrictions on having non standard hair color, piercings, or tattoos visible, although tattoos should not show derogatory speech or symbols. Jewelry is fine to wear as long as it follows the guidelines above, and does not detract from your performance or distract others.
  • Shorter than knee-length garments can be problematic when on an elevated stage so we ask you to avoid this.
  • You are allowed to wear a small accent (such as a hair bow or tie) of dark blue, as that is our signature color. This shade of blue should be no lighter than “Royal Blue” (you can search hex #002366 online for an exact representation of this shade).
  • All members should ensure that their attire is clean and appropriate for a family-friendly concert setting.  Members should note that all attire should reflect our code of conduct.
  • There are no restrictions on religious garments or restrictions based on gender expression as long as the above are followed.
  • If not in appropriate attire for a concert, you will first be asked to leave and change if you can make it back prior to the concert. If you cannot, you will then be asked to sit in the audience or contribute off-stage for the performance.
  • Any members who are encountering issues in finding clothes suitable for performances should reach out to BGSO leadership for assistance.

Concert/Stage Etiquette

Concert/Stage Etiquette

Concert/Stage Etiquette

  • Please NO phone use during the concert (not even texting)! Make sure your phones are off or silenced and any alarms are not set to go off during the performance. Ideally, phones should not be on your person, keeping them off of the stage is recommended. We will have an off-stage room to keep items in.
  • Please refrain from talking to other members on stage during the performance, we want everyone to stay focused on the music and our conductors. As well, we are audio and video recording and do not want any of that picked up by the microphones. There will be SEVERAL cameras / recording devices being used, even small things WILL likely be picked up such as yawning, counting out loud, rifling through your music, etc.
  • A water bottle is perfectly acceptable to have at your seat, as staying hydrated is important!  Also, if you have an instrument that will have condensation that will need to be drained, please have a small towel nearby your seat for that as well, we don't want moisture on the floors.
  • There will be an approximate 15 minute intermission at which time you are free to leave the stage, we expect you back on stage at least 2-3 minutes before it is over.
  • Please note, in ALL spaces we use, PLEASE be aware of any trash you may create and do not leave it for staff to take care of! If you cannot find a trash can, plan to take it with you until you do.
  • Please feel free to have friends or family take photos or video, but ask them not to use the flash, use loud shutter sounds, or obstruct the view of others as that can be distracting. We will also be taking our own high quality video of the concert that will be available on our YouTube channel afterwards. :)  If you do have friends or family get any good photos that you would like us to share, on any media, please feel free to have them send digital copies to info@baltimoregso.org
