Audition Date: August 19th in the classroom [BGSO rehearsal will still take place in auditorium]

Judges / Help: We have all we need, thanks!!! :D

Want to Audition? Fill out THIS form!

List of Auditions:

  • A Darkened Skyline (Halo 3) -  Electric Guitar
  • The Mess I Made (Another Crab's Treasure) -  Vocal Solo (Flexible Octaves)
  • Seashore War (Donkey Kong) -  Harmonica
  • Kappn's Song (Animal Crossing) -  Vocal Solo (Flexible octaves), Ukulele (together or separate)
  • The Sirens (Hades 2) -  Vocal Trio (3 high voices, auditioned together)
  • Memories of Manoa Lai (Endless Ocean) -  Vocal ensemble (6 high voices, auditioned separately)
  • [Megachoir] We Fly No Colors Out Here (Assassin's Creed) -  Baritone Solo, Accordion

Note about holding multiple solos: Typically you can only be selected for one feature; however, with there being a trio and small ensemble (Sirens and Endless Ocean), if you are selected for either of those, you are eligible for another solo. You can only be selected for two features total though. (Ex. Sirens+Endless Ocean, or Sirens+another solo, or Ocean+another solo)

Song Title: A Darkened Skyline (Halo 3)

Voice Type/Instrument: Electric Guitar (Bring the amp/pedals setup you would use to perform this on) - Solo_Guitar - A Darkened Skyline.pdf

Measures: Letter H, I, & J, m.81-126

Full solo section

Which track will be used? A Darkened Skyline (guitar solo).mp3

3:37- 4:52 (starts 4 bars before solo)

Listen to the original piece for inspiration and try to emulate that style of guitar solo

Halo 3: ODST Disc 2 OST 02 Skyline  (5min in)

Song Title: The Mess I Made (Another Crab's Treasure)

Voice Type/Instrument: Vocal Solo (Flexible Octaves) Vocal Solo - ACT.pdf

Measures: Letters A & B with pickup m. 19-40

First verse, pre-chorus and chorus

Which track will be used? 07 Mess I Made Audition Clicks.mp3

1:07 - 2:20 (3 bars before entrance)

The piece is centered around this solo. Listen to the original for the “pop” voice styling. A microphone will be used for this audition, since it is a style best emulated through a microphone. You can choose to sing this in its original low octave (tenor/baritone range) or take it up an octave, or a mix that fits your voice.

The Mess I Made | Another Crab's Treasure OST

Song Title: Seashore War (Donkey Kong)

Voice Type/Instrument: Harmonica 10-Hole C Diatonic Harmonica - Seashore War.pdf

Measures: 74-90 (all of it)

Full solo section

Which track will be used? Seashore War (No Solo Harmonica).mp3

2:25-3:08 (4 bars before entrance)

From the arranger: “emphasis on the swinging rhythm, evocative of bluegrass music (the grace notes and lower mordent add a lot of flair)”

Song Title: Kappn's Song (Animal Crossing)

Voice Type/Instrument: Vocal Solo (Flexible octaves, can audition for just the vocal solo, or can do voice and ukulele together) Voice Solo with Chords_Kapp'n's Song.pdf

Measures: Beginning - m.52

Intro, First Verse and Chorus

Which track will be used? VOCAL AUDITION_Kappns Song.mp3

:51* - 1:28 *Sing a cappella from beginning to m.29, track will then start at measure 28 while you are holding that note. Continue singing until m. 52

From the arranger: "- Vocal solo: Pop/casual type voice (no vibrato/classical feel). The original is just a guy singing a song he's making up on the spot while hanging out on a boat, so fun/casual vibes. Yes, octaves can be adjusted, but it should feel more chesty, less warbley "

If you are auditioning for ukulele and voice, be prepared to do both at the same time. You will sing the vocal part into a microphone. See note on the ukulele part about auditioning separately or together.

Song Title: Kappn's Song (Animal Crossing)

Voice Type/Instrument: Ukulele (Can audition for just ukulele, or can do voice and ukulele together) Ukulele_Kapp'n's Song.pdf

Measures: Beginning - m.17, 35-52

Intro, First Verse and Chorus

Which track will be used? VOCAL AUDITION_Kappns Song.mp3

:51* - 1:28 *Play from the beginning to m.17 without the track. Track will then start at 28. Resume the part at m. 35 and play until m. 52

For the sections with rhythm slashes, either follow the rhythm from the original (see link to YouTube video) or create your own rhythm that matches the time signature.

Tab, chords, and notes are all provided in different versions of the track. You can change the voicings of your chords but make sure the chords themselves are correct.

From the arranger: “Ideally the same person is playing ukulele and singing.”

From a judging perspective, some people will sing, some will play ukulele, and some will do both. If someone is doing both, we can have them do one part or the other, or take them as both solos.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf- Kapp'n's Song

Song Title: The Sirens (Hades 2)

Voice Type/Instrument: Vocal Trio (3 high voices, auditioned together) Vocal Trio - The Sirens.pdf

Measures: M.178-211

Coral Crown Chorus Ending

Which track will be used? (need a no-vocals track) The Sirens.wav

4:50 - 5:48 (starts four before your entrance)

You will audition together as a trio, singing together. You must bring your own trio, we will not be pairing people up at the audition itself. The audition will be held with three microphones to show your microphone skills (pending that can be set up on the night of the audition. If not, be prepared to sing together without microphones). Listen to original tracks for the rock-gurrrl power vibes: Hades II - Bewitching Eyes Hades II -  I Am Gonna Claw (Out Your Eyes then Drown You to Death) Hades II -  Coral Crown

(Editor’s Note: Also see, Hex Girls from Scooby Doo)

Song Title: Memories of Manoa Lai (Endless Ocean)

Voice Type/Instrument: Vocal ensemble, 6 high voices Choir-Endless_Ocean.pdf

Ranges: Low voice G3-Eb4, Middle Voice C4-G4, High Voice, Eb4-Bb4

Measures: 1-9

Entire section

Which track will be used?

No track, a cappella audition

There are 6 spots available for this small ensemble, choose at least one of the parts to audition on. If you learn multiple of the harmonies, make sure you can sing them equally well, you will sing each one back to back. You will be auditioning by yourself. No microphone will be used for this audition, as your natural voice should be heard clearly by the judges for this style.

For style inspiration: original Track, beginning to 25 seconds - Endless Ocean - Prayer, Hayley Westenra

Song Title: [Megachoir] We Fly No Colors Out Here (Assassin's Creed)

We Fly No Colours Out Here.pdf

Voice Type/Instrument: Baritone (Voice) Solo - C3 - Eb4

Measures: Beginning-34

All of Randy Dandy O

Which track will be used? No track, sing a cappella to show us your powerful voice

:00-:55

From the arranger: "Vocal solo should be a very broad/brash ""pirate"" voice (Irish/West County) that has a bold sound that commands the room. For Leave Her Johnny, they should be able to tone it down and be a bit more solemn but still clearly ""steering the ship.""

Ideally, this would be done by one person in the baritenor range, I want someone with a rich deep voice but can still go into the higher range. If a bass can do it that's fine but I don't think it's appropriate for a soprano/alto. I am not against each section having a different soloist but ideally it's the same person throughout."

Song Title: [Megachoir] We Fly No Colors Out Here (Assassin's Creed)

We Fly No Colours Out Here-Accordion.pdf

Voice Type/Instrument: Accordion

Measures: Beginning-39

(Verse, Chorus)

Which track will be used? No track, you got this!

:00-:55

You need to be able to keep good time, and also own an accordion and be able to play it well enough. And be better than anyone else that brings an accordion I guess.
