BGSO Section Selections (NEW Fall 2025)

 As of this current season, we no longer have the capacity, with as large as we have become, to continue to have people move between sections of the orchestra or perform in both orchestra and choir throughout the season. It is logistically difficult to account for all section switches in the concert layouts, as well as figuring out pathways for movement between sections, and we would also like to maintain consistent sound and balance within all groups throughout the season on all pieces. This will also help ensure rehearsals are streamlined for effectiveness.

We are asking all members to confirm if they are switching to another section for this season by the following timeline 

• CURRENT members (as of 2025 spring) will need to choose by the August 6th rehearsal, if different from the previous season. (If there's no change from last season, you're good!)
• NEW members joining will need to decide within two weeks of their first rehearsal. 

To confirm a switch, please talk to your section leader AND our orchestra/choir conductors so that everyone is on the same page! I will also need to know where you are going to be for attendance and seating.  

This includes any section that would require you to get up and wholly move to another area, such as going between choir and orchestra or violin to trumpet. This does not include instruments that are within a section, such as piccolo to flute or for example, any flavor of saxophone within the saxophone section. If you have questions, please ask!

If a chosen section leader for the year wants to switch to a section they are not in for the season, if this happens mid-year, another section leader will need to be chosen. The section leader will either be chosen from: 

• The selection of applicants for that section that weren't chosen initially
• A new application will be emergently opened. 

Section leaders are highly encouraged to stay with the section they were chosen to lead.

Also, starting this season, we will have only one permanent player on each electronic part (keys, guitar, bass guitar) UNLESS an arrangement calls for another one specifically (ie. guitar 1 & 2 - different parts). If that happens, the orchestra and choir conductors will decide how to poll the overall group to find another performer for that piece. If we have an electronic player that needs to take one season off, with communication to the leadership team, a replacement will still be found with the caveat that it is only for the one season as long as there is confirmation they will be back next season, or the replacement could become permanent.
